Lolita 30 Day Challenge: Day 7

Today´s challenge is a hard one:

Day 7: 10 people who inspire your lolita style.

 

I don´t think I´m inspired by that many specific people. I admire a lot of random lolitas that I´ve seen on EGL or on Daily Lolita, or ones that I´ve met on MAF. I admire them, but I don´t really stop to think about their names or anything like that....Still, I´m sure that you´re more than ten out there!!

I guess that if I had to pick anyspecific people, I´d go with three:

1) Zeruda. : 3 We met on MAF, and your coords inspired me to try out dressing lolita sometimes. Now you´ve grown out of lolita, mostly, as have I....but you still have great style. :) I´m so glad we´re friends.

 

 

2) Momoko, the character from Kamikaze girls. Who actually inspires me as to what I don´t want to be as a lolita, ever. Sure, she has some redeeming qualities by the end of the film, but that doesn´t mean that she isn´t selfish, brand-obsessed and routinely lies in order to get money for lolita. 

3) Misako Aoki. She´s the idea lolita embassador, in my opinion. I´ve used her hairstyles as inspiration a few times for a lolita coord or three.

Oh, fine, I´ll add one last one---but she isn´t even real! Sakura Kinomoto, from Cardcaptor Sakura.

When you think about it, more than half of her outfits require the use of one or more petticoats (I recall one Sakura cosplayer once commenting something like this on her blog:  "And yes, I am wearing 4 petticoats in this photo. There was no other  way to get the same poof as in the original illustrations.").

This illustration is also another reason why I felt like laughing when BTSSB (or was it AatP?) released their Black cats series, with a detachable tail and kitty ears.....

Lolita 30 Day Challenge: Day 5

Day 5: 10 items from your wish list.

 It´s been awhile, hasn´t it? Well, this wishlist has items that aren´t lolita as well, but I will try to keep them mostly loli. In no particular order:

 

1. Angelic Pretty´s Chess Chocolate (or whatever it´s called) JSK. I like the other versions, as well as the OP, but find them too sweet to wear. This one, however, keeps it simple: plain diamonds (with the AP logo, I believe). I´d even wear it in this color. I love the buttons at the front of the dress. 

2. Alice and the Pirates "Toy´s March" Onepiece. I usually dislike OP, but this one....I am totally in love. It´s blue, red and white, my favorite color combination, and it reminds me a bit of an AP skirt that I own. I also really like that it´s buttoned down the front. I don´t know why, but I really like OP/JSK that do that.

3. Baby the Stars Shine Bright Hearty Bootees.  Brand shoes make me wince with their prices. These still do, but with one notable exception--I really *would* be willing to spend that amount of money on them (if only I could skip taxes!).

 4. MILK salopette. I´ve mentioned this one before. It´s still on my "want-to-buy-somehow" list.

5. Emily Temple Cute skirt: No idea what it´s called, but it´s so elegant and yet femenine that I want it. The color could be coordinated with so many things as well...

6. Baby the Stars Shine Bright Bear headband. I  don´t care if people say that they´d look cosplay-ish; I love bears and cute things and this would be such a great opportunity to match my Usakumya.

7. A canotier in general. I don´t like headdresses on me, but I think that a canotier (or round headdress, as they´re sometimes called?) would be workable. And I just love the way the ribbons dangle over to the side. More mature-looking than a headeating bow, to be sure. I want one to match either of my AatP Chain Bouquet JSKs.












8. Baby the Stars Shine Bright JSK. This JSK is nice and simple (a style I´m favoring more and more).  (Barely any) No lace. No ribbons. The great thing about this dress and that sets it apart from regular white JSK? The lovely crocheed pink-and-yellow flowers that decorate the bottom of the skirt and the top of the chest. I am definitely in love.

 9. MILK coat. Even though it´s pink, and I´m usually repelled by pink....the cut of this coat is just plain lovely....

10. Baby the Stars Shine Bright Tulip Bouquet. In blue (what other color? LoL). I like this JSK version, with the thin straps best. I really like flower and flower-border motifs, and this one could work perfectly well both for lolita and as a regular sundress.











I just noticed how many of these are BTSSB items.......hahaha.....it really is one of my favorites, so I have lots of Baby things on my wishlist.....I should have included one of my Meta WTB ( I love Meta as well, after all!) but I´m feeling too lazy to hunt down the pictures.

I can´t wait for next week, when I get to go to the BTSSB and AatP booth at the con!

Lolita 30 day challenge: Day 4

Day 4 : 10 different kinds of food you like.

 This was easy-peasy!! In fact, I had to cut out a few foods.....

1. Curry. I love and adore curry to the nth degree. I especially like chicken curry, since I also love chicken.
2. Carrots. The best vegetable and snack in the world.
3. Chili con Carne. Yum. I like it in all its variations, from the regular ground-beef-and-beans kind to the stringy-pulled meat-without-beans kind. Make it hot and spicy, it´s even better!
4. Chicken Tandoori. Delicous chicken, and add a spicy yogurt sauce? A++!!
5. Chana Masala. I love legumes.  Beans, lentils, chickpeas...... so if you have a dish based on chickpeas and it´s spicy....I will eat it and love it.
6. Lentil soup. Pretty plain and average compared to the other exotic dishes I´ve named. But lentils are great.
7. Chicken rice soup with lemon. My grandma is the best at making this dish. If you don´t add lemon to it, it really loses its touch.
8. Berries. Anything that has "-berry" as part of its name, I will probably like. Blue, black, red, straw, give them all to me!
9. Fajitas. Tortilla. Chicken. Green pepper. Spicy.  ´nuff said.
10. Chocolate: As long as it´s not mixed with anything fruity. 

As you can see, I´m more of a "spicy or salty" kind of girl rather than an uber-fan of sweet things.  On that last one I was debating "meat buns" or "stir fry noodles" but I thought that I should at least include two sweet things in the ten.

Lolita 30 Day Challenge: Day 3

Day 3: 10 things you hate in lolita.

This was a bit harder than I thought it´d be.

1. The stares and laughter: While on some days I enjoy being the center of atention, I never enjoy it if I get laughed at when I´m in lolita. Related to this, 
1. A. Lolita is not very well known or accepted outside of Japan: I know that the fashion can´t help it, and that slowly this situation is reversing, but.....sometimes I wish that Lolita were as accepted as the "goth" and "punk" and "grunge" looks are in the West. I wonder if I´ll ever see the day when a lolita walks down the street and gets a "Nice JSK!" or "Nice lolita look!" from a random passerby.
2. The expenses: Buying brand clothing is horribly expensive--even if you buy it secondhand. Even now Bodyline prices and those of other "offbrand" shops have been rising. Being a lolita, whether a lifestyle one or not, definitely depletes your pockets. 
3. The lack of real-life stores outside of Japan: Of course they exist--but if you´re unlucky enough not to live in San Francisco, Paris, London or New York, you´re pretty much stuck. Finding lolita items is nearly impossible in regular shops; even "loliable" clothes are rare. 
4. Store webpages that are in Japanese: There are a lot of brands and stores nowadays that not only  ship outside of Japan, but also have webpages (or at least staff) that know English. But this is not the case when you leave the "larger" brands. I have had to give up buying one or two JSKs that I really liked from the sheer impossibility of navigating through their webpages, even with the help of a translator.
5.  Shoe sizing: It has got to be the most darned confusing sizing I have ever come across. I still don´t understand how I can measure my feet, give them a few free "extra" millimeters, order the shoes, and still have them pinch my feet. This has happened to me with all my lolita shoes--and believe me, my feet don´t regularly grow and shrink. 
6. Petticoats: While the floofyness of petticoats recieves my undying love, I also somewhat dislike them--in summer, they are very hot. Bleh. Also, petticoats additionally force you to wear bloomers or boyshorts underneath your skirt unless you want to flash your panties.....which adds to layers and therefore the heat. 
7. The "exclusive" and "snobbish" behaviour of some lolitas towards others. I haven´t suffered this myself, but I´ve seen it, and I hate it. 
8. Head-eating bows: I love bows. But these are just a bit ridiculous looking in most situations. (=_= That said, i actually own *one*).
9.  The "consumism feeling" that all lolitas are trapped in. We oooh and aaah over brand (or offbrand), and buy buy buy. Lolita is a focus of a lot of money. That said, the positive aspect is that many lolitas sell sell sell when they´re tired of their pieces.
10.  Heart-shaped lolita aprons: I think they are horrible. Regular frills in an apron are alright, or ones with cute prints, but I absolutely  can´t stand ones like this:

Lolita 30 Day Challenge: Day 2

Day 2: 10 things you love in lolita.

1. I can haz petticoats: I love the feeling of fluffiness under my skirt, the swish they make, the volume that they add. They give me a feeling of elegance and "olden days"-ness that I am addicted to.
2. Lolita makes me feel  girly and pretty: There is nothing quite like a frilly dress and a bow, coupled with a pannier in order to make me feel femenine. After spending most of my teenage years attempting to deny the fact that I had grown breasts and was therefore female.....I have embraced my femininity in my twenties. Go figure. I must be a late bloomer.
3. Lolita has lovely prints: Prints and a style that you can´t usually find in mainstream European style. I love prints so much.  They don´t even have to be OTT sweet prints, any print style is unique.
4. Lolita has brought me so many friends:  Truly, I have met so many wonderful people thanks to lolita, essentially through MyAsianFashion.com. Zeruda, Do-chan, Luna Rain, etc. ....people that have become friends, people I admire, people that inspire me. All thanks to lolita.
5. Lolita has taught me the value of secondhand clothes: In my culture, secondhand clothing isn´t very well spoken of, so I´d never thought about actually buying secondhand clothes.  Now it´s become a normal idea, since I usually buy burando secondhand. Secondhand is no longer synonymous with "tattered, low-quality and old" in my mind.
6. Lolita has improved my "mad internet skillz":  By forcing me to navigate though crazy websites in japanese. Seriously. So hard. =.=*
7. Lolita has given new impulse to my interest in fashion and makeup: Before lolita, I didn´t really care about either of these things. Now I actually enjoy them.  Considering that it´s something that´s important when looking for and holding a job....yeah: Thank you lolita fashion!
8. Lolita clothes are good quality: Which is a rare thing in clothes nowadays. I really like it.  It´s something I appreciate.
9. Lolita is something I can share with other people: It´s a way to shout out at the world. And, frankly, on some days I really appreciate and like to bask in attention.
10. Lolita always has interesting accesories: Whether OTT sweet to gothic or classic, lolitas all over the world accessorize accessorize accessorize! They´re always so original, it´s a total inspiration. I love how you can wear so many differnt things in your har, on your wrists, around your neck...!

Yes, I really like lolita. Even though I´m not an everyday lifestyler, I love it. <3 

Here´s a picture of my beloved Closet Child petticoat (which I am starting to consider too poofy to be everyday-wearable, as my tastes are inching towards classic lately...and I need an A-line instead of a cupcake.....but oh well. It still feels my love.)

 

Lolita 30 Day Challenge: Day 1

For day one of the Lolita 30 Day challenge, this is what I have to do: 

 Day 1: 10 things about your lolita bubble

Truthfully, I´m not quite sure what it means by "lolita bubble". But taking from the expression "personal bubble", I´ll assume that it means to define aspects in relation to lolita and myself. So, here goes:

1.  I am a girl who considers herself  "not quite a lolita yet"- I´ve only dressed in full out-lolita (i.e. with my huge petti and a wig) in public a few times. I tend to dress more in "casual lolita" when I feel the urge, since I´m a person with a bit of an eclectic style.
2. My family environment isn´t very accepting of lolita: my mother hates it (and has expressed her embarassment about my dressing loli), my father thinks I´m a bit crazy, and my brother doesn´t particularly care one way or another. My aunts and uncles.....well, best not talk about them. They´ve refused to be seen in public with me when I´m dressed "like that", as have my cousins. 
3. My town envoronment isn´t particularly supporting either: I have gotten stared at, catcalled and taken pictures of without permission.  :/ On the other hand, nice old ladies have complimented my dress, bonnet and petti on several occasions. That has to count for a bit of positive feeling. :3
4. My friends: are actually pretty supportive. I have one friend who lilol occasionally dress in punk loli or goth loli to match with me. I have another that doesn´t care, as long as I´m not too extreme (she´s even bought a loli dress for herself as an experiment to wear to a Con with me). I have yet another who has told me that she´s seen my slow attraction to all things loli, and that it was  logical that I´d end up like this (LoL). And so on and so forth. So: Yay friends!!
5. I am an active member of an Asian Fashion forum (MAF), and have met many wonderful lolitas (and non-lolitas) there, who I also consider friends.
6. I was initially very attracted to sweet lolita, especially OTT prints, but have grown out of that phase. Now I´m more interested in Classic style, or substyles like coutry lolita or sailor lolita. I think they´re more versatile, since they can be used in loli coords and in more mainstream coords, sometimes.
7.  My wardrobe has a lot of Meta in it, a Baby and AP pair of pieces, and one IW, but actually I really like Alice and the Pirates. I have a few Bodyline pieces, but it´s mostly secondhand brand, since I figure--I don´t dress lolita so often that I need an extensive wardrobe. Which means: I deliberate quite a bit, and then buy. The only breand non-secondhand that I own is a Meta Ruffle Pinafore JSK in navy. And the tax on it nearly killed me (70 euros!! More than a third of the price of the JSK in TAX!!), so I´m wary of buying NEW brand again soon.
8. For me, dressing lolita must involve wigs or hairpieces of some sort. Otherwise, I don´t get that "primped up" and "dolled up" feeling that I want to feel when I dress loli. I´m into braids at the moment. Braids and buns.
9. I actually don´t recall when I first became enamoured of lolita. It sprang into being sometime, probably initiated by an anime or something, then a search for pictures, and then falling in love with the pettis, dresses and outfits (again, since I loved dresses as a youg child).
10. To me, lolita is a way to express myself and wear things that I think are pretty, even if they´re not mainstream. It´s my way to indulge in the "love of cute things" that is so characteristic and ingrained within my self that I will never let it go. Thogh  sometime I feel insecure with all of the stares an comments, when it comes right down to it.....I´d rather walk around with my Usakumya, hug it, get whispered about and perhaps blush a bit than long for an Usakumya but be too scared to buy it.

Lately, while blog-surfing, I have seen many loli-blogs with dates on them, and lists and such. I got a bit curious, and tried to investigate what exactly was the purpose of so many posts saying "Day so-and-so". Finally, I found my answer at Lolita Yogurt. Thanks Churi-chan!
