Japan Weekend Madrid 2011

This con was really really small. It wasn´t very well organized at all, and the events were pretty crummy. Next time I will try to participate in the cosplay contest; with the exception of two or three cosplays, the rest were pretty average. The worst part about it was that there was absolutely no airconditioning in the building. Considering the sheer amount of people there were on Saturday....it´s a miracle we didn´t all keel over and die from the heat.

It was incredibly cramped on Saturday as well; Sunday was more of a "relaxed" day.  On Saturday, I cosplayed Princess Zelda from "Legend of Zelda:Skyward Sword". It´s a new game that is going to be released in november (I´m so excited!). It turned out pretty popular--my Birdie was a hit. If you´re curious about it, check out my cosplay blog, Phases of the Moon. I´ve updated it with progess and soon will with pictures as well.

On Saturday, S wore a samurai outfit: a Shinsengumi outfit from a series whose name I can´t remember. S, forgive me!! I know you told me many times!!

Sunday was more "bah". Besides showing up a lot later (we got to the con at 1:30PM vs Saturday´s 11AM), we wore more "casual" clothes--instead of cosplaying, my friend S and I dressed lolita. I dressed full-out and took Sir Rabbit of Bear (black Usakumya) with me, and she wore a casual outfit that was vaguely school-uniform-lolita in style.

You can´t really see her outfit very well in this picture, though. She was wearing this awesome white circle skirt with a black border and an applique of a diamond, heart, spade and...(what is the one that looks like a shamrock called in cards? Not treble or clover, right?) on the side. She sewed that skirt by herself. It´s wicked cool.

Oh, I used my fake bangs for this outfit--I thought straight looked good. I wore my Alice and Black Cat JSK since I was planning on dropping by the Baby stand.

I saw a lot of lolitas on both days, so I was excited about meeting the "lolita community" here in Madrid. I thought that since all of the lolis I´ve met online have been quite nice, surely Spanish lolitas would de the same! Sadly, not true.

They´re not mean, per se. No comments on my outfit, nothing at all. I´m a painfully shy person, especially when it comes to approaching people, so I took my Usakumya with me in the hope that it´d help "break the ice" somehow with other lolis. They´d approach me upon seeing the cuteness of my bunybear, right? Wrong. I was pretty much ignored...kinda looked at sideways and just sorta turned into...air. Where did I go wrong, I wonder? Besides my shyness, I really tried to look approchable. I mean, it must´ve been working because I got approched by tons of non-lolis and "regular people" to ask for outfit snaps and pics with my Usakumya.... I finally decided to give up. Apparently, lolis in Madrid and the surrounding area are a very close-knit community....to the exclusion of new people. *sigh* At least, I hope it wasn´t me.

In the end, though, I did get noticed by three "intended" people thanks to my Usakumya-chan. Two lolitas and a..."dandy" I believe they´re called? They wowed at how big Sir Bear was and absolutely freaked out (must´ve thought I was breaking him or something) when I demonstrated his rabbit-to-bear and bear-to-rabbit transforming abilities. They asked for a photo with him (and me, by default. Though I offered to let them just take a picture of him gettign held by them...but the dandy mentioned that that´d just be rude...which kinda flattered me. I love it when people are polite as they should.).

The blonde girl was wearing what appeared to be an offbrand JSK (and really cute shoes, as shame you can´t really see them here) and the other girl was wearing BTSSB´s Red Riding Hood Applique OP....Old-school and cute.

Our conversation pretty much ended after the Usakumya  photo, but I still felt kinda happy anyway. I did get some nice conversation out of some Spanish lolis.

As for the BTSSB and AATP store.....I desperately desperately wanted to buy something from there. Really. Truly. I even searched for it first thing on Saturday, before I looked at any of the other stands.....and checked out two things that I though I might want to buy: a white BTSSB headbow, a cute head ornament and some wristcuffs. However, by the time I had made a "round" around the whole section the lolita stuff was in.....they were all gone!! Grah! On Sunday, they didn´t set out any new stuff, and it was mostly prints and printed bows....so sadly I couldn´t buy any.

I was severely tempted by the small Usakumya they had....but they were the pink version. I do want the smallest size Usakumya, but I´d rather it not be pink.....or at least so overpriced. 81 euros.....when even on the Tokyo Rebel site they´re going for little more than 50 dollars.... it still didn´t stop me from aching and aching for one, though...I am obsessed....S literally rabbit-punched me to awareness (Via Usakumya-chan.....). When I really really think about it, the only things that were at a regular more decent (for brand!) price were the headbows and socks. A shame that the ones I wanted got sold and not replaced by more.....darnit, I should have bought them immediately.....it´s shocking that  I was willing to pay 40 euros for a brand headbow, but being white, it´d have fit nearly half of my outfits....WHY U NO RESTOCK, BABY?

In the end, I didn´t even find a decent artbook to buy. I feel a bit empty, it´s become a bit of a tradition for me to buy at least one artbook per con I go to. I ended up buying only two things, both for a steampunk outfit I want to try out with my AatP Chain Bouquet JSK in ivory....I just think that it´d totally rock a steampunk look. I probably wouldn´t even need a petti. So now I´m gathering materials. My haul:

Round "steampunk" glasses. I like them in black, but I´m debating looking for another color "glass" or "plastic" to replace the black.....maybe brown would look good too.

A clock necklace. I fell in love. It´s so original. More expensive than some I´ve seen in stores, but it´s an actual working watch....and it´s the "wind-up" type!! I love that!!! It´s a really nice aged gold sort of color.

I saw a rather nice brown-and-gold canotier as well....but I am SO not paying 50 euros for one that´s not even brand, and only matches one of my outfits.

I think that in the end I will still regret the fact that I didn´t buy that pink Usakumya...I was ticked pink (LoL, get it?) by the notion that I could have all Usakumya sizes and all Usakumya colors......but S saw the pricetag. (I should have hidden it...suggested she look somewhere else..)....it´s so sad to be ashamed of how much money you´ve spent on lolita brand fashion.....my friends and family have no idea how much it´s all cost me. I felt so guilty lusting after that Usakumya under the gaze of my friend S, who thinks that it´s excessive for a plushie....and it is....but it´s so cute! >.< I couldn´t buy it in front of her, though. I should have gone back after I dropped her off at the bus....but I was so tired....I´ll just have to ask around on EGL I guess.....or live with the regret.

I´m such an Usakumya whore.

I love every single second of it.
