March #1 want

This is what I decided that i really liked and want. It´s BTSSB, how could it not be?

It´s a lovely hat--perfect for winter, not so much for spring-summer, but it´s the kind that´s wearable with loli--both formal and casual--and out of it.

It´s like a beret...but not. Like a cross between a hat and a beret. It´s perfect. I´m definitely going to both try to make one--and get my hands on this lovely original.

With my luck I probably won´t find it, but....EGL Sales.....here I come!

Still working hard

So, I have my huge exam this Thursday--I´m working hard and practicing lots!! I don´t have much time to go online or blog at the moment, but soon I´ll be back on schedule.

I´ll just leave you with a Decoed pic of my sleepy morning face. Studying late had stopped being a habit, but I always have to remember that sleep is important too!

11 Things about Me

1. I'm a very shy, calm, laid-back person. But when I get mad, it´s generally extreme.

2. I graduated from University last summer. I finished my 3rd degree.

3. I am currently in the middle of my exams to become an English teacher in a public school. I also work part-time.

4. I would be perfectly happy eating soup every single day. Especially if it has corn in it. And peas.

5. I don´t drink anything even remotely alcoholic.

6. I speak 4 languages, two in which I am bilingual, one which I speak fluently and another that I can read better than speak. I want to learn more.

7. I wish I had a teleporting machine that allowed me to visit all my friends.

8. My favorite color is blue.

9. Someday, I want to travel the world.

10.I really enjoy writing. Whether it´s stories for my kiddies in class or blogging, it´s great fun to me.

11. I can´t help but mentally correct mistakes and typos I come across while reading anything. But this is mostly limited to English.

1. Are you religious?

I am a practicing Roman Catholic, though this past year I haven´t been to church much at all, I´m sorry to say. This doesn´t mean that I adhere to everything dictated by the Church, however.

2. What time do you usually go to sleep at?

A relatively normal-to-early hour for a Spaniard: between midnight and one.

 

3. What is your favorite book?

I enjoy reading entirely too much, and as a result go through books really quickly. I tend to think more along the line of "favorite authors" than "favorite books". Some of them are: Anne McCaffrey, Diane Duane, Tolkien, Marcedes Lackey, Arturo Perez-Reverte, Matilde Asensi.... 

4. The most expensive item of clothing you've ever bought?

The only new piece of brand that I ever bought (and probably will ever buy, considering the stuff Spain´s Customs Department made me go through): My Metamorphose Temps de Fille Ribbon Pinafore JSK in Navy. It´s this one: 

 Let´s just say that it was regular "burando" JSK price, plus approximately 80 euros in taxes and fees. 

5. Name three things sitting next to you.

Pencil case, CPE English Teacher´s book, the printer.

 

6. Who inspires you the most in your life?

Probably my Mom . Her ongoing fight against cancer and refusal to give up is an inspiration.  

7. What is/was your least favorite subject in school?

Physical Education. I liked it the least. The only times I enjoyed it was when I was in Elementary School (and therefore pre-teen-klutziness-free) and when I did my 3 years of gymnastics training (I had the one and only PE teacher who ever actually valued effort and took into account abilities). 

8. How would your friends describe you?

Misleadingly shy (I can get a bit rowdy with people I know well). Loyal. A listener. The "goody-two-shoes". The "book-smart one". Also, the "naive one". And my brother would probably add "the one they want to get drunk somehow out of sheer curiosity" one.

 

9. If you could bring back one person from death, who would it be?

My grandfather, who died in 2011. So that my grandma could have a few more years of happiness with him. 

10. What song plays the most on your mp3/iPod/etc?

None in particular.... it depends on my moods and the time of year. During Christmas, it´s carols. Summer, it´s something upbeat. Now it´s a mix of Vocaloid songs and Irish reels.

11. Who is your favorite movie villain?

Now, if you asked me about an anime villain, I´d say Sesshoumaru (though he´s more of a neutral force than evil, really). As for movie movies, I´ll admit that I´m quite fond of Scarecrow (and his lovely eyes), from Batman. It´s one of the reasons I crossplayed him.

WTF Baby? What is it this time?

Yep, this is another one of those WTF Baby posts.

I find it quite amusing to look at some of the crazy or horrendous things that brands have thought up and wanted to sell (or even worse: actually succeeded in selling, just because they´re brand). I think I´m going to incorporate this to a regular posting schedule, oncce all of my exams and such are over and my schedule settles down a bit. I´m also going to incorporate other brands into this, because, let´s face it--every brand has the right to a hall of shame. And everyone can use the laughs (either at my commentary ot at the items or both--anything goes!).

Today´s Hall of Shame item is the following, courtesy of Baby the Stars Shine Bright:

Yes, girls. Let´s just dutifully repeat from the lolita rules handbook: What is it that a lolita must never ever wear lest it be branded as "cosplay"? Cat ears! What is it that all lolitas must hate, as it associates lolitas to "cosplay"? Maid outfits! Isn´t this what every "veteran" lolita attempts to pound into the brain of all "newbie lolis"? The rule that we have all grown up with and must never ever forget unless we´re willing to suffer the agony and melodrama of being branded "ita"?

Baby, at one point in time, decided to ignore the "rules". They thought "Hey, we´re BTSSB, we can totally do anything we want." And they really can--because they´ve actually sold these. They were snapped up within minutes of one of Closet Child´s updates (and they weren´t precisely cheap), so I can only assume that lolitas out there actually want them. Astonishing. Let´s take another look:

Yep, those are still cat ears. Cat ears with an absolute "maido" touch. Did Baby put the rules through the blender, and make something out of the only bits that survived? "Maid" and "nekomimi"? Was "Nekomaido" the result of that moment of madness?

I´ve always thought that lolita rules were (to quote a certain famous pirate) "Not really rules, but more like guidelines." But still, I can´t help but wonder what possessed the designers to make this. As if the occasional maid-reminiscent/aproned lolita pieces weren´t toeing the line enough, they just had to take it up a notch.

I still hate maid outfits, though. They really bring bad memories and all those instilled fears to mind. Taking a picture with these, no matter how much you prove that they´re "burando", would be a loli suicide (lolicide?) unless you´re one of those lolita style icons. If you´re not, you risk (or almost certainly guarantee) branding as an "ita". If you are, you might just start a wierd and yet groundbreaking trend.

Thank goodness that at least the lace is good quality. There´s always that, right?
